News24 honours Swadhin Bangla Football Team

News24, a television channel owned by Bangladesh’s largest business and industrial conglomerate Bashundhara Group, has accorded a grand reception to the football heroes of Swadhin Bangla Football Team in recognition of their contribution to the country’s liberation war in 1971.

The channel also gave each member of the team a crest and a cheque for Tk 50,000 at a ceremony at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Saturday.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir and Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu handed over the crests and cheques.

Swadhin Bangla Football Team drew the world’s attention to the suffering of war-torn Bangladesh during the liberation war.

The members of the team raised public awareness about the country’s war by playing exhibition matches in India.

The members accorded reception are M Jakaria Pintu (captain), Protap Shankar Hajra (vice-captain), Mohammad Abdus Sattar, Md Kaikobad, AKM Nowsheruzzaman, Saidur Rahman Patel, Kazi Salahuddin, Aminul Islam Suruz, Bimal Kar, Sheikh M Taslim Uddin, Biren Das Biru, Lutfar Rahman, Suvash Chandra Saha, Fazle Sadain Mridha and Sheikh Ashraf Ali.

News24 celebrates 2nd anniversary

Privately-run satellite television News24 is celebrating its second anniversary with a renewed pledge to project the country’s positive image across the globe as it steps into third year of operations on Saturday.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, and News24 Chief Executive Officer Naem Nizam along with guests inaugurated the celebration programme by cutting a giant cake at a function at International Convention City, Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Saturday morning.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu, BNP joint general secretary Moazzem Hossain Alal and Jatiya Party secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader were present at different sessions of the programme.

Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milon, Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, Kaler Kantha Executive Editor Mostafa Kamal and Daily Sun Executive Editor Shiabur Rahman were also present.

From the beginning, the television has been producing round-the-clock news-oriented programmes.

After the cake cutting programme, a reception programme was held for Swadhin Bangla Football Team members.

The television started its journey as broadcast media entity of East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL), a concern of Bashundhara Group, on July 28 in 2016.

Prize-giving ceremony of Bashundhara Tissue held

The prize-giving ceremony of Bashundhara Tissue Scratch Card Offer was held at Bashundhara Industrial Headquarters-2 in the capital on Sunday.

Bashundhara Group Chief Financial Officer Mirza Mujahidul Islam handed over the prizes to winners.

Bashundhara Group Executive Director Md Masuduzzaman and General Manager (marketing) Toufiq Hasan were present at the programme.

Among the winners, Kawser Al Hasib got a motorbike, Abdus Salam, Kamrun Nesa Maya, Shafaq Iqbal Jui and Nur Alam four gold coins, Shirin Akter and Rasel Hossain two laptops and Samsunnahar Beauty and Md Jahid received two microwave ovens.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Financial Officer Mirza Mujahidul Islam said, “Bashundhara Tissue has been providing service for the last 18 years and nowadays the tissue has become essential for people.”

Bashundhara Group Executive Director Md Masuduzzaman said, “We have launched the scratch card programme so that people can win car, motorbike, gold coins and other gift through buying Bashundhara tissues.”

Gold coin winner Shafaq Iqbal Jui told the daily sun, “I’m so excited to get the gold coin.”

“I bought a facial tissue box for my baby and sent the secret number by SMS. Later, I got a reply that I have won a gold coin,” she said.

Officials concerned said that Bashundhara Tissue launched the programme for its customers to mark 18 years of the brand’s journey.

Under the offer, a customer gets a scratch card for buying a facial tissue box. After scratching the card, the customer receives a secret number which needs to be sent to 6969 by SMS.

Earlier on June 11, Kazi Sharmin got a motorbike while Ruhul Kuddus, Ilias Ahmed and Sohrab Hossain received gold coins.

The offer will continue until July 31.

Bashundhara LP Gas hosts iftar at ICCB

Bashundhara LP Gas Ltd (BLPGL), a concern of the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, hosted an iftar party at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Monday.

Over 500 guests, including retailers, dealers and distributors of the BLPGL, attended the iftar party titled “Vratritter Udjapone Iftar Ayojon-2018” at Hall -1 of the ICCB.

Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and vice-chairman Shafiat Sobhan were present at the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Akbar Sobhan said, “Twenty years ago we dreamed about LP gas which none thinks. Today we have been ahead of all for distributors’ continuous support. Bashundhara believes in quality, not in quantity.”

“We hope to export LP gas after meeting the demand of the country’s 16 million people,” he added.

Bashundhara Group vice-chairman Shafiat Sobhan said ‘Eid Mubarak’ to all.

Mir TI Faruk Rizvi, head of division (marketing and sales) of the BLPGL, and Sundarbans Industrial Complex Ltd and high officials of Bashundhara Group were present.

Steady GDP growth vital to keep march towards dev

Bangladesh will have to maintain the steady GDP growth to continue the momentum towards achieving the Visions 2021 and 2041 of the government, country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks while addressing a function organised by daily Bangladesh Pratidin and News24 at East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL) at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital.

The event was organised for the conference of the local correspondents of the two media outlets of EWMGL, a concern of Bashundhara Group.

Referring to a World Bank statement suggesting that Bangladesh needs to raise its GDP projection to 10 percent in order to graduate to the developed country status, the Bashundhara Group chairman said “It’s a big challenge for Bangladesh”

The media outlets of East West Media Group Ltd have been portraying positives stories to contribute to the government’s efforts for image building of the country, he said.

“EWMGL newspapers, TV channel, radio and online news portal always emphasise on the positive news and highlight the potential sectors of the country to be a part of the government’s development activities,” he said.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said “We are involved in the politics of development. Our business ventures work for the economic development of the country and its people.”

Underscoring the need for the pro-liberation spirit to continue the ongoing development process in the country, he said “The spirit of the liberation war remains very close to our heart no matter what party or ideology comes to the power.

All concerned at Bashundhara Group have proved through their activities that they embrace the pro-liberation spirit.”

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan termed drug, corruption and irregularities as the biggest foes to the nation and its march towards development. He said the EWMGL outlets have been a strong voice against these ordeals and cover reports showing zero tolerance for these issues.

He also called upon the journalists the dig out the information on misdeed, irregularities, corruption, persecution and discrimination.

Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam said Bangladesh Pratidin, News24 and other media outlets of the EWMGL are doing objective journalism highlighting the image of liberation war spirit and secularism.

“We have created a large readership and viewers of the newspapers, radio and TV channel through objective journalism which has been possible due to freedom of press ensured by the government,”

Third ‘Bashundhara Cup Golf Tournament’ ends

The third ‘Bashundhara Cup Golf Tournament 2018′ came to a successful end amid gala festivity and prize giving ceremony at Savar Golf Club in Savar Cantonment on Saturday.

The three-day long event started on January 25, sponsored by country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan graced the final day of the tournament with his presence.

A total of 300 golfers including local and foreign players participated in the prestigious tournament.

Golfer Rana Shahid Hassan clinched the title in overall category.

Serving humanity means serving the creator: BG Chairman

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan on Tuesday said serving humanity is the best religion.

He said, “As a human being, everybody should go forward to help the poor, the distress. Serving people means serving the creator.”

He came up with the statements while addressing a programme held at the Bangladesh Pratidin office at Bashundhara residential area in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

In the programme, he delivered a total of 50 lakh taka to two charity organisations titled ‘Bachnte Shekha’ and Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP).

Bashundhara Group Chairman also said, “I am not interested in self-publicity.

My work is my publicity. But, through these publicity I think other businessmen will also come forward with their helping hand.”

Bangladesh Pratidin, a wing of East West Media Group, arranged the programme to honour the two charity organisations.

মঙ্গলবার (১৬ জানুয়ারি) বিকেলে রাজধানীর বসুন্ধরা আবাসিক এলাকার মিডিয়া হাউজে জাতীয় দৈনিক বাংলাদেশ প্রতিদিনের সম্মেলন কক্ষে আয়োজিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে দুই প্রতিষ্ঠানের হাতে এ অর্থের চেক তুলে দেওয়া হয়।

‘আর্তমানবতার সেবায় বসুন্ধরা গ্রুপের চেয়ারম্যান আহমেদ আকবর সোবহান’ শীর্ষক ওই অনুষ্ঠানে সিআরপি’র প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ভ্যালোরি এ টেইলর ও বাঁচতে শেখা’র নির্বাহী পরিচালক অ্যাঞ্জেলা গোমেজ নিজ নিজ প্রতিষ্ঠানের পক্ষে চেক গ্রহণ করেন।

প্রতিষ্ঠান দু’টির প্রত্যেককে ২৫ লাখ টাকা করে অনুদান দিয়েছেন বসুন্ধরা গ্রুপের চেয়ারম্যান আহমেদ আকবর সোবহান।

চেক হস্তান্তর অনুষ্ঠানে বিজি চেয়ারম্যান বলেন, আমি ব্যক্তিগতভাবে আত্মপ্রচারে সন্তুষ্ট নই। কর্মেই আমার প্রচার। তবে এই প্রচারের মাধ্যমে দেশের অন্যান্য ব্যবসায়ীরাও অনুপ্রাণিত হবেন বলে আশা করি।

মানবসেবা সবচেয়ে বড় সেবা- এমন মন্তব্য করে তিনি বলেন, মানুষ হিসেবে মানুষের দুর্দিন-সুদিনে এগিয়ে যেতে হয়। আজ দুইজনকে সম্মানিত করতে পেরে শুধু বসুন্ধরা গ্রুপ নয়, সারা দেশের মানুষ গর্বিত। কারণ ইস্ট ওয়েস্ট মিডিয়া কাউকে অনুমোদন করা মানে দেশের বিশাল সাংবাদিক সমাজ তাকে অনুমোদন করলো।

32 crore hands to take Bangladesh forward

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Managing   Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir exchanged new year’s greetings with people of Rupganj.

They also held a view-exchange meeting with them at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital on Sunday.

The Bashundhara Group chairman attended the meeting as the chief guest and the managing director as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is enriched with 32 crore hands of 16 crore people of the country.

The country will move forward and reach its goal based on concerted efforts of all the people.

“The 32 crore hands will push the country forward. Our main objective is to work for betterment of the people and the country at large.

We want to see peace and prosperity of all people.”

Rupganj Awami League senior vice-president Khandker Abul Basar Tuku presided over the meeting. Narayanganj-4 lawmaker Shamim Osman delivered the address of welcome.

Captain (retd) AB Tajul Islam MP, chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Liberation War, and Nazrul Islam Babu MP were also present.

Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir said, “I have been with the people of Rupganj for long. I will stand by them in tackling any critical situation.”

 

 

He promised to always remain with Rupganj people in good or bad times.

Sayem Sobhan requested the people to pray for him, his family and Bashundhara Group.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said, “Bashundhara Group started its journey in 1988. You (people) know well what a poor condition of infrastructure and life of average people prevailed in the project area. Gradually, we developed the area. Bashundhara Residential Area is now regarded as the best town in the country today.”

He said he can read the mind of the people of Rupganj and feel their pulse.

“I also respect feelings of you (people) and know your sufferings. I love Rupganj. I want to see that you are living in peace. Various crimes, including drug peddling, murder and robbery in the area, are making headlines most frequently. I am shocked at the incidents.”

He made a firm resolution to be with people of Rupganj in their fight against any crime and misrule.

The Bashundhara Group chairman urged the crowd to work for protecting the spirit of the Liberation War. He called upon them to be vigilant to protect country’s independence and sovereignty.

Mentioning that people are the source of all power, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said, “All crimes and misrule will disappear if people of Rupganj are united. I am and will be among the people of Rupganj, Vulta, Kanchan and Araihazar.”

“My heart is overflowing with gratitude to Rupganj people who have shown so much feeling and regard for us. We hope to meet people again at meeting in Rupganj. We expect more people of the upazila to be present on the occasion. We will work to strengthen the pro-liberation force.”

About contribution of Bashundhara Group, he said, “Our contribution to the national economy is next to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. At least 50,000 poor farmers have become millionaire because of us. We just gave effort but almighty Allah helped us.”

The Bashundhara Group chairman vowed to change the economic condition of the people of Rupganj.

“We are involved in such a business which helps other people to be wealthy. An industry not only casts a positive impact on the life of the entrepreneurs and their employees but also on common people,” he said.

“Please, pray for the prime minister and my family. If the PM lives long, she will bring the 16 crore people and country to the climax of development and success. Pray for us so that we can work for protecting the interest of pro-liberation forces,” he added.

Shamim Osman hailed Bashundhara Group for developing Narayanganj, Rupganj, Araihazar and Sonargaon.

Bashundhara Group is contributing greatly to the development of Rupganj through establishing schools, colleges, mosques and madrasas, he said.

Calling Bashundhara Group managing director ‘a son of Rupganj’, Shamim Osman said, “We have come to exchange new year’s greetings with each other.”
